Indus University inks LoI to support Tobacco Smoke Free Karachi initiative

Commissioner Karachi has a clear stance regarding the enforcement of Tobacco Control laws, he want to save the lives of future generations, that’s the reason the commissioner Karachi office is leading the Tobacco Smoke Free Cities an initiative of NHSRC Government of Pakistan and issued directives to all seven deputy commissioners for the formation of District Implementation and Monitoring Committee and Tobacco Control Cells to monitor the violations of Tobacco Control laws and to take immediate action against violators.
Syed Jawad Muzaffar Additional Commissioner Karachi shared these views while chairing an Letter of Intent (LoI) signing ceremony on Tobacco Control between Indus University, Commissioner Karachi Office and Tobacco Smoke Free Cities Ministry of NHSR&C.
He also added that Establishing a tobacco smoke free generation is the most important goal of the “Smoke Free Karachi” Project for which the Commissioner’s Office Karachi is fully committed.
The Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed by Dr. Minhaj us Siraj Project Director Tobacco Control NHSRC, Syed Jawad Muzaffar Additional Commissioner Karachi and Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Syed Zafar Nasir of Indus University.
However, While sharing views Muhammad Younis Dahri Additional Deputy Commissioner East Karachi informed the participants the district government east is taking effective measures to ensure compliance on Tobacco Control laws and educational institutions could play its vital role in curbing tobacco use among youth by supporting the mission of Commissioner Karachi and NHSRC.
Khalid Amin Chancellor Indus University assured for his full support in this noble cause to make Karachi a model smoke free city.
The ceremony was ended after the inauguration of smoke free signage fixed at the entrance of university to share the message of Tobacco Control and to declare the Indus University as Tobacco Smoke Free Zone.
Different faculty staff of Indus University including Tobacco Smoke Free Cities Ministry of NHSR&C Project Manager Muhammad Aftab, District Coordinator Tobacco Control District East Karachi Bilal Zafar and others attended the ceremony.
