Big updates are coming to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, with its camera getting its first big UI redesign in years. The company has focused on placing controls on the bottom of the screen for easier accessibility.

Android Authority reported that the settings pill at the top has been moved to the bottom-left corner of the screen. The Settings sheet, which appeared from the top by tapping the screen, has remained unchanged and can now also be accessed through a swipe-up gesture.

The black strip that displayed user preferences, will now also house a high-level Photo and Video switcher. The mode/feature carousel which appeared at the top of the strip, will now appear overlaid on the viewfinder for a more dedicated UI.

While the shutter button remains the same, the front/rear switcher is now on the right and the last shot preview is on the left. The zoom switcher will appear above but the various sliders retain their original position.

Google is also working on Staggered HDR to “[speed] up the capture process and makes artifacts less likely, thanks to shorter delays between frames,” along with “Segmentation AWB” to “apply different processing to select parts of the scene to make it more accurate.” The company also has an “Adaptive touch” to “prevent overexposed shots and improve low-light photography” by just adjusting/shortening flash intensity depending on the scene.

The new features to the Pixel cameras are expected to first come to recent phone like Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.
