Doctors to continue protest at NICH until demands are met; Dr Mehboob Chairman YDA Sindh

 

A female doctor and medical staff were allegedly tortured on yesterday midnight at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) in Karachi. 

Young Doctors Association (YDA) Chairman Dr Mehboob Noonari stated that, On the midnight of October 10, 2024, a violent mob entered in the emergency of NICH at midnight, tortured the female doctor, nursing staff and security guard and one of the perpetrators has also been identified as carrying a weapon.

 

He informed that,Apart from the violence on the medical staff, the doors and windows of the hospital were also broken.

 

The situation was reported to the police, who, despite their arrival, were delayed in apprehending the violent mob, and the perpetrators fled the scene, he added.

YDA Sindh Chairman informed, In view of this situation, the Executive Director of the hospital could not reach the spot despite of contact several times, due to which legal proceedings were obstructed and delayed and the hospital management apologized for coming forward to file an FIR.

 

It was learned that a few days ago, doctors protested against the incidents of violence in the hospital for three days in the NICH, on which the hospital management assured the doctors in writing that the security situation will be improved and the environment of the hospital will be secured and the patient children, doctors and medical staff will be protected and at the same time, an FIR was assured against incidents of violence, None of these points were followed by the management.

 

YDA Sindh has decided to continue the protests at the NICH until the health minister and the Sindh government along with the hospital management re-establish the security system in the hospital and ensured the protection of doctors and patients lives.

In this decision’s continuation on call of YDA Sindh Doctors and staff of NICH staged protest today and told that the protest to remain continues until demands are met.
