DHO Central takes lead by facilitating patients suffering from hemophilia

Patients suffering from hemophilia, a bleeding disorder have started getting covid vaccination first time at their own centre. 
Before this, hundreds of hemophilics came back from vaccination centre witnessing long ques after fear of internal or joints bleeding if they wait for their turn to get the jab.
District Health Officer (DHO) of Karachi Central Dr. Muzzafar Odho has taken a lead to facilitate this community in his district. On the request of Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi (HWSK), treatment centre of this society has been declared vaccination centre for hemophilia patients and their families located at Nazimabad number 04.
Vaccination facility inaugurated by chief guest Dr Hira Zaheer – Covid Focal Person at DHO Central office, Dr. Durre Naz – Secretary Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority, Akhtar Shaheen Rind – anchorperson and Raheel Ahmed – Founding President HWSK.
Society other officials Fakhar Alam Zaidi, Anis Ur Rehman, Mohammad Shahid, Dr. Munira Burhani, Rana Asghar Ali, Dr Saqib – Director SBTA, Dr. Durre Shahwar – SBTA and other guests were also present.
Raheel Ahmed – Founding President HWSK briefing guests about working of the society said that hemophilia patients were being neglected during covid vaccination drive. “We highlighted this issue in media and thanks to DHO Central Dr. Muzzaffar Odho and Dr. Hira Zaheer who immediately responded and now vaccination has started,” he told.
It is necessarily required to inject anti hemophilia to patients before getting any intramuscular injections. Otherwise there is internal bleeding and same is the case with those who waited long at mega centres for vaccination. This was also creating a fear among this community to get covid jabs, he added.
Raheel Ahmed told that 50 patients will be vaccinated at the centre and they have 850 patients registered with them from all over sindh who avail day care facility in the time of need. “Prevalence of hemophilia is among 19 in one lac population,” he mentioned.
Chief guest, Dr. Hira Zaheer lauded HWSK efforts and assured for DHO office full cooperation with regard to covid vaccination. “People shouldn’t be afraid of getting vaccinated, take precautions and just get vaccinated,” she added.
Anchorperson Akhtar Shaheen Rind said that by highlighting issues like of hemophilia community, media can play a crucial role in society.
Dr. Durre Naz informed that Sindh Health Department is providing covid vaccination on priority basis for patients suffering from hemophilia and other such immuno compromised disease
