Deputy Commissioner Korangi organizes Tobacco Smoke Free Sunday Cycling Rally
The drive for a healthier lifestyle and a tobacco-free future reached exhilarating heights as Deputy Commissioner Korangi, organized a vibrant cycling rally on Sunday along. This event, organized in collaboration with the Tobacco Control Sindh Directorate of Health Services Sindh, marked a resounding call to action to raise awareness about the hazards of smoking and promote a healthier, smoke-free Karachi.
The Chief Guest of this event, Deputy Commissioner Korangi, Syed Jawad Muzaffar, cut the ribbon alongside Aun Annas, ADC II Korangi, Deputy DG Health Dr. Zulfiqar Dharejo, Chairman Sindh Board of Technical Education Dr. Masroor Sheikh, Colonel Anwer, Joint Director Anti Narcotics Force, and other distinguished guests to inaugurate this ceremony. The cycling rally commenced at the grandeur of the DC Office Korangi and traversed through the city’s streets, concluding at the Indus Hospital. Leading the charge alongside Deputy Commissioner Korangi were all Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners of Karachi, who joined hands to inspire a smoke-free movement among the city’s youth.
With the ceremonial ribbon cutting by Deputy Commissioner Korangi, the rally officially kicked off, setting the stage for a memorable journey of health and awareness. The event saw active participation from students and young individuals representing various educational institutions, making it a testament to the city’s commitment to healthier living.
With the generous support of sponsors, provided participants with customized T-shirts, caps, and other essential materials. To recognize their invaluable contribution, certificates were presented to all the cyclists and volunteers who made this rally a grand success.
Syed Jawad Muzaffar, Deputy Commissioner Korangi, shared his enthusiasm, stating, “The Sunday Cycling Event signifies the initiation of healthy activities in Karachi, aimed at dissuading our youth from the use of tobacco products. The presence of over 100 passionate cyclists demonstrates Karachiites’ wholehearted support for our noble cause of promoting a” Tobacco-Free Environment in Korangi.”
Deputy Commissioner Korangi lauded Tobacco Control Sindh for its commitment to organizing health-focused events, expressing satisfaction in the ongoing initiatives aimed at creating smoke-free public service vehicles and food outlets. He remained hopeful that these commendable activities will continue to inspire the community.
Dr. Zulfiqar Dharejo Focal Person Tobacco Control Sindh/ Deputy Director General Health Services Sindh, addressing the gathering, expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner Korangi and all District Administration officials for their steadfast support. He also urged the youth to abstain from tobacco products, citing the alarming statistic of more than 160,000 lives claimed by tobacco use annually in Pakistan.
Tanveer Qaim Khani, Project Coordinator of Tobacco Control Sindh, emphasized the significance of the day’s event as the second of its kind in Karachi. With wholehearted participation from Karachi’s district administration, he assured continued technical support from the department, to disseminate the message of tobacco control. He conveyed the hope that Karachi would soon become a model city for a Tobacco Smoke-Free future.
