CRPC urges Govt, CCP to take action against token schemes by paint companies
Paints companies are minting extra money from consumers by offering bribe in shape of token schemes in their paints brands which is also a tactic to promote substandard products. Consumers are much worried and sending their complaints to the Consumer Rights Protection Council of Pakistan (CRPC).
Government and Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) should take immediate notice of this cheating by paint companies and stop it forthwith. Such companies should also get realization of these overburdening pockets of consumers and stop these practices immediately.
This was demanded by Shakeel Ahmed Baig, Chairman CRPC while addressing a meeting of council members in his office. Workers or contractors undertaking task to pain house or building are attracted with offers to get amount ranging from 400 to 1600 rupees on purchase of each tin or jar. Greed to have this extra amount lead them to purchase such substandard paint brands, he noted.
Consumer is the one who is paying actual price of paint tin or jar and the extra amount offered by companies to contractors or labourers. Such companies also do not pay taxes on token amount depriving government of legitimate taxes. Companies are earning million of rupees profit by such schemes, Chairman CRPC told.
Federal government and Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) should take immediate notice of these practices and stop this mafia from looting consumers. This will also bring cost of paints down. Related companies are also requested to realize its national duty and stop cheating consumers. They should also include in tax net. We will pray honorable courts for providing relief to consumers if action is not taken against all culprits involved in this fraud, Shakeel Ahmed Baig warned.
