Asha Didi a Sikh Lady along with her community welcomed Rev. Fr. Saleh Diego and his team of the National Commission for Interreligious Dialogue and Ecumenism (NCIDE) of the Archdiocese of Karachi at Gurudawara, located in the compound of Shri Swami narayan Mandir, Karachi.
The Jayanti, birthday of Guru Nanak is celebrated all over the world and this year the Christian leadership of the Archdiocese of Karachi reached to the Sikh community and mark the celebrate of 552nd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, who was born in the year 1469 at Nankana Sahib, near present-day Lahore in Pakistan.
After the Partition of India in 1947, the minority Hindus and Sikhs migrated to India but still there is very small community of Sikhs who have kept the light of their religion burning of their extensive heritage and history in Pakistan. Recently the Sikh community within Pakistan has been making lots of efforts in the progress of Pakistan.
During the visit of Christian members of NCIDE, the unbroken reading of Gurmukhi was carried on by Sikh community, Mr. Vijay Mujrani, a member of Prem Sagar of the Shri Swami narayan Mandir explained that the reading of Guru Granth Sahib is carried on whole day by the Sikhs members and families who visit the Gurdawara normally have to finish the whole book in 48 hours from start to finish.
Mr. Mujrani also said that Guru Nanak firmly believed that an individual could connect to God through sincere prayers and all his teachings and preachings are composed together to form the sacred book called Guru Granth Sahib. The roots of Sikhism can be traced to the very heart of Pakistan, he added.
Rev. Fr. Saleh Diego the head of the National Commission for Interreligious Dialogue & Ecumenism (NCIDE), a project of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Pakistan (CBCP) of the Archdiocese of Karachi in his comments had said that unless and until we respect each other we cannot have peace in our society, today they have come to endorse that Guru Nanak is a symbol of humanity and peace who preached this but gave example with his own life.
Fr. Diego also said that Guru Nanak was a great preacher of love virtue, equality, goodness, love and goodness; he traveled a lot and spent a life that was filled with wisdom. We all the members of NCIDE have come here to convey the message of Archbishop Benny Mario Travas, Archbishop of Karachi that we all the Christian Community are united with you all the Sikhs, the followers of Guru Nanak and follow the values of our religion and must become the source of peace, unity and betterment of our country, Pakistan.
