Capacity Building session for Local Government Representatives held in Sukkur
Shehri-Citizens for a Better Environment with the support of Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) organized a capacity building workshop for Women elected representatives of Local Government at Sukkur.
The objective of the workshop was to equip elected representatives with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively implement the provisions of the Sindh Local Government Act and enhance their performance in serving their communities.
Advocate Ghazala Anjum, trainer of session said that Local governments have the potential to promote women participants as political actors and candidates through the reservation of seats.
She further said that efficient service delivery is a key outcome of effective local government systems.
Anwar Mahar, who was moderator of the session said that the aim of local governance is to empower local people and it ensures the citizen participation into the governing system of local government.
Azra Jamal, member Sukkur Municipal Corporation said that local governments often have limited financial resources to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
Qamar-un-Nisa, member SMC, Social activist Shazia Jahangir and Shahnaz Sheikh, member District Council Sukkur also spoke during the workshop.
The workshop provided participants with valuable insights and practical tools to enhance their performance and promote good governance within their respective union councils.
Earlier Sarwar Khalid of Shehri-CBE said local governments is the best system for service delivery at grassroots.
