Provincial Minister for Environment, Universities and Boards, Ismail Rahu, while presiding over the meeting, has expressed anger over DG SEPA and other officers and said that the he needs good performance of the department.
Provincial Minister Ismail Rahu further directed the officers to take action against industries and smoke producing vehicles operating without treatment plant across Sindh including Karachi, and to dispose of waste from all hospitals across Sindh including Karachi.
Ismail Rahu said that heavy fines should be imposed on the hospitals in Karachi which do not have waste disposal plants, water from drains and gutters should be treated and brought to the work of parks and nurseries.
He said that all the officers should continue to work for the protection of the environment, protection from the effects of climate change and coastal development and should take action together, take action against factories that cause environmental pollution, take stern action against industries and hospitals that dump waste in Lyari and Malir river.
The Environment Minister said that it was the responsibility of the industrialists to set up treatment plants.
He directed the officers to complete all the ongoing development works in the Coastal Development Areas as soon as possible and nurseries would be set up all over Sindh including Karachi.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Environment Aslam Ghauri, DG SEPA Naeem Mughal, SIDA DG Riaz Abbasi and other officers.
During the meeting, the officers gave a detailed briefing to the Provincial Minister Ismail Rahu on the day-to-day functioning and affairs of the two environmental agencies.
