The visit of the students from the IT and Sindhi Department of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Shaheed Benazirabad, to the Abdul Majid Bhurgri Institute of Language Engineering (AMBILE) in Hyderabad was a noteworthy event, marking a significant milestone in the academic collaboration aimed at enhancing the Sindhi language’s capabilities in the realm of Artificial Intelligence.

Led by Prof. Dr. Phullo Sunder Meghawar, the delegation comprised enthusiastic students, including Mr. Nizam Uddin, Mr. Lal Khan, Mr. Tofique Ahmed, Mr. Mustafa Keerio, Mr. Aftab Hussain, and Mr. Farman Shar. The visit was meticulously planned to provide these students with hands-on experience and insight into the practical applications of language engineering.

Upon arrival, the group was warmly welcomed by Mr. Amar Fayaz Buriro, the Director of AMBILE. Mr. Buriro commenced the session with an engaging demonstration on how the Sindhi language can be integrated and enhanced within the sphere of Artificial Intelligence. He meticulously explained the techniques for adding new capabilities to the Sindhi language, shedding light on the nuances of language engineering and the morphology of Sindhi.

The highlight of the visit was the decision to initiate a comprehensive training program for the visiting students. Under this program, the students would receive in-depth training on working with the Sindhi WordNet.

The project aims to develop and enhance the existing Sindhi corpora, focusing on grammar tagging and categorizing Sindhi words. This initiative is expected to significantly improve the Sindhi WordNet System, a crucial resource for the language’s digital advancement.

Prof. Dr. Phullo Sunder Meghawar expressed immense satisfaction with the strides being made in the development of the Sindhi language. He remarked on the importance of these initiatives in ensuring that Sindhi is recognized on par with internationally acknowledged languages.

His sentiments were echoed by Mr. Maqsood Qazi, a renowned writer and intellectual, who also participated in the workshop. Mr. Qazi, who had harbored doubts about the future of the Sindhi language in a market-driven world, expressed his relief and satisfaction upon witnessing the groundbreaking work being conducted under the aegis of the Culture Department, Government of Sindh.

The students displayed a keen interest in the revolutionary project, eager to contribute to this essential task. Their enthusiasm was palpable as they engaged with the demonstrations and discussions, recognizing the importance of their role in this transformative endeavor.

As the visit concluded, it was mutually decided that a training and orientation workshop would be conducted on the 9th and 10th of July. During this workshop, the enlisted students would further delve into the intricacies of the Sindhi WordNet System, continuing their journey towards enhancing the digital presence of the Sindhi language.

In summary, the visit by the IT and Sindhi Department students of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University to AMBILE was a resounding success. It marked the beginning of a collaborative effort to preserve and advance the Sindhi language through innovative academic and practical approaches.

The forthcoming training programs promise to further this mission, ensuring that Sindhi continues to thrive in the digital age.
