HYDRABAD: Hussainabad Town Municipal Corporation (TMC) Chairman Umair Chandio, son of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Moula Bux Chandio, has been booked in an FIR concerning a five-year-old child who was bitten by a stray dog.

The FIR has been lodged at Qasimabad police station in Hyderabad on the order of an Additional Session Judge who is also ex-officio Justice of Peace.

Abrar Hassan Solangi, father of child Hassan Mujtaba, also nominated Town Municipal Commissioner Kashmir Jamali under sections 270, 289, 290 and 337-R of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

These sections entail a maximum of two years imprisonment and fine if convicted. The court gave order for the FIR citing November 26, 2020, order Sindh High Court Sukkur bench which was given in a constitutional petition regarding dog-bite cases. As per the judgement the local government representatives will be held responsible for dog bite cases in their respective jurisdiction.

Although the police have registered the FIR the accused have not been arrested so far. The sections contained in the FIR stipulate a maximum of 2 years imprisonment besides a fine if convicted.
