ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif telephoned Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday and congratulated him on his re-election in Sunday’s run-off vote and expressed his best wishes for him.

President Arif Alvi and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also congratulated Erdogan, terming his victory reflective of the trust reposed by the people of Turkiye in him.

“Your re-election is a recognition of your association with people of Turkiye and impeccable service,” Shehbaz told President Erdogan in the telephone call, according to an official handout.

“In the last two decades, under your leadership Turkiye made remarkable progress. I believe that under your wise and sagacious leadership Turkiye will continue its journey on the path of progress and prosperity with the same pace,” Shehbaz added.

“I am certain that Turkiye will play a more effective role for the peace and stability in the Islamic world. Your personal interest in further solidifying and deepening the special relationship between Pakistan and Turkiye is a source of strength and satisfaction.”

Shehbaz said that his government was determined to work with Erdogan to further solidify the bilateral brotherly ties. “We are desirous of early holding of seventh meeting of the high level Strategic Cooperative Council,” he added.

“We are eager to welcome you in Pakistan for participation in the Strategic Cooperative Council meeting,” he said adding that his participation in the meeting will promote the bilateral strategic cooperation in multidimensional fields.

Erdogan thanked the prime minister and reciprocated the warm sentiments of goodwill. He also expressed his best wishes for the government and people of Pakistan.

Alvi, in a message to Erdogan, expressed his confidence that Turkiye would “continue to prosper under your dynamic leadership”, adding that he looked forward to working with President Erdogan closely and expand bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

Foreign Minister Bilawal congratulated Erdogan in a tweet. “Heartiest congratulations to Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election,” the foreign minister wrote on social media platform.

“His historic victory reflects the trust of the Turkish nation in his visionary leadership. Wishing Türkiye eternal peace and prosperity as we continue our unique journey of brotherhood.”
