According to the Director-Anti Quackery, Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC),the overall number of ‘dirty quacks ‘ in Karachi city is on the rise.
SHCC Anti-Quackery team met with positive support from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to chalk out a plan to take strict inspection and enforcement ( I&E ) actions in the District in order to identify unauthorized healthcare establishments within various sub-divisions of the District South.
On a positive note, both teams agreed that clinics should be monitored for compliance and that new ‘quack areas’ must be identified through a consistent mapping exercise that will lead to increased targeted operations in the area.
Under section U/S 35 of the SHCC Act 2013, ‘all executive authorities and law enforcement agencies of government shall act in aid of the Commission’.
Sindh Healthcare Commission team will work in collaboration with different sub-divisions and Assistant Commissioners will provide the required law enforcement support.
Earlier meetings held between Director Anti-Quackery and Deputy Commissioner South resulted in this breakthrough, that is supposed to continue in the long run to address the growing menace of ‘Quackery’.
Both SHCC and DC office also agreed on sending fact-finding missions to investigate genuine grievances being faced by medical practitioners through quality assurance and make this a top priority.
Positive media reporting of facts is necessary to highlight joint efforts in the fight against quackery.
