The solution of Karachi city municipal problems lies in the transferring powers of local government departments and the collection of octrai district tax to KMC, These views were expressed by the Local Bodies Reporters Association (LBRA) office bearers on the occasion of meeting with the officials of Karachi Residents Forum.
A delegation of Local Bodies Reporters Association headed by Patron in Chief Shehzad Chughtai met the officials of Karachi Residence Forum. President Tanveer Syed, General Secretary Imran Ali Shah, Finance Secretary Abid Abbasi, Joint Secretary Syed Junaid Ahmed, Vice President Johar Majeed Shah and other office bearers of LBRA were present on the occasion.
On behalf of Karachi Residence Forum President Bilal Mirza Baig, Vice President Manzar Abbas, Media Secretary Matoolb Baig, Tahir Hussain, Muhammad Zubair Afzal, Member Governing Body and in-charge of Local Body Committee Farooq Afzal, Member Shafiq Qureshi, Muhammad Khalid During attended the meeting ,serious and complex local government issues faced by the citizens were discussed.
The Patron in Chief of LBRA and other members appreciated the efforts made by the forum on public issues and after pointing out some necessary suggestions for achieving positive results were also given. The participants also expressed their concerns on Local Government amendment Bill.
However the delegation of LBRA and Karachi Residence Forum called for empowerment of civic bodies. They said that the solution of local bodies problems is possible only by devolution of powers to lower level. At the same time, it was agreed to highlight the upcoming issues in the press media and to work together for its resolution.
