Tobacco Smoke Free Cities(TSFC) Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination (NHSR&C) with the collaboration of Deputy Commissioner East Office organized training of trainers for the nominated focal persons and master trainers of district departments of east Karachi.
It was learned that more than 15 departments including Police, Education, Health, Sindh food Authority, Auqaf, Excise, DMC and others on the directives of Muhammad Younis Dahri Additional Deputy Commissioner II East departments have nominated focal persons and master trainers to support the mission of District Government and TSFC of Tobacco Smoke Free East Karachi.
The Session was commenced with the recitation of Holy Quran, whereas Principal Social Welfare Training Institute Ms. Anis Fatima welcomed guests and delegation of TSFC.
Muhammad Aftab Project Manager TSFC briefed participants of training about the role of TSFC for the tobacco smoke free environment, he also shed light on its initiatives in Islamabad that how the capital city of Pakistan has now declared as a Tobacco Smoke Free city.
He informed that TSFC took this initiative from last year in Karachi by the collaboration of Commissioner Karachi and deputy commissioner east and south office, now on the directives of commissioner Karachi the tobacco smoke free cities work has been extended to all seven districts of city.
However, he shed light on the role of different departments towards a tobacco smoke free environment, he praised the efforts of Additional Deputy Commissioner East and District Departments heads for taking their personal interest to make District East as a Tobacco smoke free district.
Dr. Minhaj us Siraj Project Director TSFC told participants of training about the existing tobacco control laws of Pakistan and also shared about the achievements and initiatives of TSFC which other countries have replicated to protect the lives of their future generations.
He stated that Pakistan has won Tobacco Control award this year from World Health Organization it happened due to the continuous efforts of TSFC staff , respective district governments and district departments support.He said 267 public places in all over Pakistan has been declared as a Tobacco Smoke Free Zone , this is not just a digits as there are years of efforts in every digit.
Furthermore, Participants of Training of Trainers including Zahid Ali Khan Deputy Secretary Sindh Board of Technical Education, Ms. Kaneez Fatima Deputy Director VA Social Welfare Department and Ms. Nazish Parveen TEO District Education Office Elementary, Secondary & Higher Secondary East has shared the plan of actions of their respective departments via presentation that how departments would play their role to spread the message of tobacco use hazards among masses and the effective enforcement of Tobacco Control laws.
At last Muhammad Younis Dahri Additional Deputy Commissioner East/Focal Person Tobacco Smoke Free East Karachi alongwith Dr. Minhaj us Siraj, Muhammd Aftab and District Coordinator Tobacco Control East Bilal Zafar distributed certificated among the participants of Training of Trainers .
Later the Social Welfare Training Institute Karachi has been declared as a smoke free zone after the inauguration of smoke free plate though ribbon cutting by Principal Social Welfare training institute alongwith Additional Deputy Commissioner East and other participants of the training.
