Urban Property Tax Management System transferred from Excise Department to Sindh Local Govt Department


Urban immovable property tax management department has been transferred from Excise Department Sindh to Local Government Department Sindh with formal approval of Sindh Cabinet. 

In this regard, a ceremony was held in the office of the Local Government Department Project in which Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Local Government Secretary Syed Najam Ahmad Shah and other relevant persons were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that the system of urban property tax collection is being transferred to Sindh Local Government Department, which is expected to significantly increase the resources of local union councils.

Sindh Local Government Secretary Engineer Syed Najam Ahmad Shah signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Sindh. Giving details in this regard, Syed Najam Ahmad Shah said that after the recommendations of the committees and formal approval of the cabinet, the job of urban property tax collection has been officially transferred to the local councils effective from July 2022, which will cover all the union councils of Sindh.

The Secretary informed that currently the number of taxable units in Karachi is approximately 840 thousand which will be increased gradually.

According to Najam Ahmed Shah, the property tax challan form will be delivered to the property units with the help of Pakistan Post and for ease of tax payment and financial transparency, tax payers have been given the facility to pay their challans online or through any bank.

Sindh Local Government Secretary further said that the Property Tax Wing of the Excise Department is being linked for a period of three years with local local councils so that tax collection can be done in the best manner.

The Minister of Local Government of Sindh congratulated all the people present at the event on this important milestone and added that the Sindh government is committed and devoted for the empowerment of local governments and a strong result oriented system, and that is why this important step has been taken.

Postmaster General Sindh Manzoor Ahmed, President Sindh Bank Imran Samad, Chief Executive1 Link Najeeb Agarwala were also present in the ceremony.
