Study visit of Model Tobacco Smoke Free city Islamabad arranged for Karachi Administration


Tobacco Smoke Free Cities (TSFC) Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSRC) has arranged a study visit for Karachi city administration to review the progress of TSFC in Islamabad which has already been declared as a Tobacco Smoke Free Model City and now TSFC with the collaboration of district administration is replicating this model in two districts of Karachi east and south.

It was learned that during the visit the Karachi administration Syed Jawad Muzaffar Additional Commissioner Karachi-II , Abid Qamar Sheikh Assistant Commissioner General to Commissioner Karachi and Umamah Solangi ADC II East along with TSFC team members met Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad to discuss about the achievements of Islamabad Administration regarding compliance on Tobacco Control laws.

However, the administration of Karachi also visited Dr. Akbar Niazi Teaching Hospital, Centauras Mall, The Diabetes Center, Allama Iqbal Park including other places of Islamabad to review their work for ensuring compliance on Tobacco Control laws.

In addition, A meeting was also arranged with Director Excise & Taxation Department of ICT, where the Director Excise briefed on the Tobacco Vendor Act 1958 to the Karachi administration..

Further ,The tour was concluded with the Inauguration ceremony of “Tobacco Smoke Free Murree” at Arts Council, Murree where officials of Ministry of NHSRC, ADC Murree, Technical Advisor, The Union International and representatives from all departments present.

At last the Karachi Administration reaffirmed their commitment to tobacco smoke free work and assured to replicate all the techniques in their respective districts East and South.
