Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh for Human Rights Surendar Valasai has said that ensuring the provision of human rights to every person irrespective of race, caste, color and religion is the first priority of the Sindh government.
He said this while talking to the participants of a speech contest organized as part of Sindh Human Rights Week being observed ahead of International Human Rights Day by Human Rights Department.
Surendar Valasai said that Sindh government has set up Sindh Commission on the Status of Women and Sindh Child Protection Authority to protect the rights of women and children. He further said that it is a matter of pride for him to be a special guest in this college where he studied 35 years ago.
The Special Assistant said that SM Science College has the honor of being founded by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
In this regard, steps are being taken to declare the college building a National Heritage. Earlier, the students gave speeches in Urdu, Sindhi and English on the topic of “Role of Human Rights in a Civilized Society”.
More than 50 students from various government schools and colleges in Karachi participated in the speech competition.
Members of Provincial Human Rights Vigilance Committee Ayub Khosa, Qaiser Nizamani, Dr. Rakesh Motiani, Principal SM Science College Bheem Raj Kalani, former Principal SM Science College Hafiz Fasih specially attended the function.
At the end, certificates were distributed among the first, second and third position students.
