“Commit to Quit”: First Tobacco Cessation Clinic established in Faisalabad

Quitting Smoking not only protect lives but it also helpful to make Tobacco free cities. District Administration Faisalabad is willing to make Faisalabad a smoke free city. Afifa Shajia Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance and Planning /Imp. Head Tobacco Control Cell shared these views while inaugurating “Tobacco Cessation Clinic”.
A Tobacco Cessation Clinic has been established by the collaboration of District Administration Faisalabad, Ministry of NHSRC, WHO and DHQ Hospital Faisalabad Management, aim of this clinic is to help those who want to quit smoking.
On this occasion Dr Samra Mazhar Project Director /National Focal Point FCTC Ministry of NHSRC stated that 160000 annually died in Pakistan due to tobacco use, whereas 1200 pakistani children from age 5 to 15 start smoking every day which is an alarming situation.
Government of Pakistan not just have to stop new smokers but also to help those who are smoking to quit it.
She said that it is the great initiative of Faisalabad management for establishing Tobacco Cessation Clinic.
Ministry of NHSRC with the collaboration of District management would continue its efforts until the end of Smoking and the making of Tobacco Smoke Free city.
In this regard an event has been organised at DHQ Hospital where Dr Ishaq Director Emergency, Dr Imtiaz Dogar Director Drugs Control and DHQ Hospital Management welcomed chief guest Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance and Planning and Dr Samra Mazhar Project Director/ National Focal Point FCTC Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination.
Afifa Shajia Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance and Planning inaugurated Tobacco Cessation Clinic and also visit quit tobacco ward, she praised the efforts of establishing this clinic and said that it would be beneficial to make city Tobacco Smoke Free and District Administration Faisalabad will continue its efforts to protect the lives of citizens.
Dr Imtiaz Dogar briefed Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance and Planning Faisalabad and National Focal Point FCTC Ministry of NHSRC about the establishing of this clinic.
He informed that People who want to quit smoking can come for checkup at OPD Room Number 9 in 6 days a week on hospital timings.
Muhammad Aftab Ahmed Project Manager Tobacco Smoke Free Cities stated that Ministry of NHSRC will train doctors regarding Quit Tobacco.
Later on Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance & Planning Faisalabad has cut cake regarding establishment of Clinic.
