Sindh Human Rights Commission(SHRC) expressed its deep concerns over series of unceasing domestic violence and murder reports of women in major cities of the country.
It is quite alarming that within a time span of few days, four brutal murders have been reported from across the country which clearly indicates towards the need of updating legislative apparatus dealing with domestic violence and a great deal of social intervention by the Government and Non-Government agencies in order to deter domestic violence which consequently leads to such gruesome murders.
The Commission in view of the alarming rise in the cases of domestic violence in the major cities of Pakistan calls for a holistic intervention from the Government departments and civil society stakeholders to strategize legislative and social intervention in order to combat such incidents from reoccurring.
Furthermore, the Police department, National and Provincial Commissions for the status of women, Women Development Department/s and Social Welfare Department/s may stay vigilant about such incidents and reach out the survivors over a whistle blow.
Besides above, the Commission while condemning such brutal acts of violence against women calls for declaring national emergency to deter consistence re-occurrence of Domestic violence and gruesome murders of women cases and an urgent meeting of all the stakeholders may be called at National level so that a single national strategy could be adopted to combat the rising phenomenon of Gender-Based violence.
