Letter of Intent on Tobacco Control signed with Safa Gold Mall

The Ministry of Health has also sent its recommendations to the Ministry of Finance to increase the Federal Excise Duty on cigarettes in the budget 2021.
It is proven globally that when the taxes are increased, there is a decrease in the use of tobacco products.

I am very proud to announce that WHO’s Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean has announced World No Tobacco Day 2021 Award for Pakistan for its effective anti-tobacco steps, whereas, the federal government was apprised regarding its global achievement.

These views expressed by Dr. Nausheen Hamid, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSRC) while addressing the signing ceremony of Letter of Intent (LOI) on tobacco control and smoke free at Safa Gold Mall.

She added that the Ministry of Health has taken significant steps to curb tobacco, including a complete ban on Tobacco Advertising, Promotions and Sponsorship (TAPS).
Islamabad is also being acknowledged around the world as a successful smoke-free model that is being replicated to other cities across the country.

Tobacco-Smoke Free Islamabad Initiative”, is a program for creating awareness of hazards of tobacco use in the general population and making all stakeholders of society to recognize and join hands to execute the model of a Tobacco-smoke free capital.

Safa Gold Mall and Islamabad Administration are Joining Hands to make Islamabad Tobacco free.

In this regard, Safa Gold Mall and Islamabad Administration has signed letter of Intent to make efforts from both ends in a ceremony regarding the Islamabad administration efforts and endeavors to Make Islamabad, Tobacco Free City, Safa Gold Mall Tobacco-Free Vicinity and Tobacco Control Program, where Dr, Nasheen Hamid, Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of National Health Services and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Babar Sahib Ud Din were present as Honorable guests at Safa Gold mall along with Dr Minhaj Us Siraj and Khurram Hashmi, Technical Advisor, The Union.

Dr, Nasheen Hamid appreciated the Islamabad Administration and Safa Gold Mall efforts and initiatives to make Islamabad and its population Tobacco Free and playing their vital role for the residents of Twin City.

Mr. Babar Sahib ud Din shared the recently achieved goals details by Islamabad administration to curtail tobacco use by implementation of various mechanisms including licensing and vigilance of Tobacco selling in the City.

Safa Gold Mall Management assured its full support and coordination to Ministry of Health and Islamabad Administration to play its Corporate Social Responsibility role in this regard.
