Every year World No Tobacco Day observed around the on May 31, since 1987, highlighting the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. It draws global attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to its negative health effects. It informs the public about the dangers of tobacco use and provides solution to the global tobacco epidemic .
Smoking is prohibited on all Margalla tracks. Violators will be immediately fined. Here the Special Magistrate will perform the duties of law enforcement. These views were expressed by Babar Sahib Din, Additional Deputy Commissioner / Focal Person Tobacco Control for Islamabad at the inaugural function to make Trail – 4 smoke-free.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Samra Mazhar, Head, Tobacco Control Cell, Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSRC), said that Islamabad is the only capital in the world where tobacco control laws has been implemented in public parks and tracks.
That is why the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), in its annual report, has ranked Pakistan at number one, which is a great honor for Pakistan.
Finally, Rina Saeed Khan, Chairperson Islamabad Wildlife Management Board, thanked the Islamabad Administration and the “Smoke Free Islamabad” Project, Tobacco Control Cell, Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSRC) for their efforts to make all tracks tobacco free.
He further said that the management of Islamabad Wildlife Management Board, in this regard, would also provide awareness to the tourists and play its full role in ensuring law enforcement.
