SEARCH holds ‘Youth Gala’ to promote indigenous games in Thar


A Tharparkar based NGOs Skill Enhancing and Research Home of the Children (SEARCH) arranged a ‘Youth Gala’ at Village Moli Je Dhani aimed to promote peace, interfaith harmony, diversity, coexistence, and pluralism in local community.

The large number of kids, women, and villagers participated in the program with zeal. Kids of village Moli Je Dhani played indigenous games including Malakhro, Kabbadi, Dari, and Gabrri, and also they took active part in competition in these games.

In addition, in ‘Youth Gala’ SEARCH scheduled a musical program in which two youngsters Ratan Lal, and Dhano Mal played dying musical instruments of Sindh, and participants danced over those melodies.

Field Coordinator to SEARCH, Maha Singh Sodho, expressed while talking with media, the core objective behind arranging this ‘Youth Gala’ is to revive the roots, to preserve dying musical instruments and folk wisdom, and also by playing the indigenous games upbringing youth can feel them fit physically.

Sodho added, playing video games on mobile, and forgetting communal events are not good practices, it’s dire need to orient kids with village life.

Executive Director(ED) SEARCH, Partab Shivani, said that schools are not empowering co-circular activities and in result kids are not growing physically and mentally, they’re just gaining weight.

Shivani emphasized that they are trying to re-introduce communal games, and also documenting them.
