The parliamentarians, journalists, civil society leaders, trade unions, women groups, lawyers, academic institutions, citizens and different walks of life of district Sukkur have been raised the important issue of the debt cancellation and demanded for immediate action on debt cancellation and stressed the Federal Government to invest the said amount on the health, education and employment through social sector.
This demand was raised in the public forum titled “drop the debt, no health” organized by National Advocacy for Rights of Innocent – NARI Foundation with the association of ‘Tax Justice Coalition Pakistan’ and Indus Consortium on Monday at district council hall Sukkur with the objective of to develop a wider platform of community leaders to raise the debt cancellation issue.
A large number of participants from elected representatives, journalists, civil society leaders, representatives of trade unions, women groups, lawyers, academia and citizens including women and men.
During speech with the participants, District Coordination Officer(DCO) Mr. Samandar Bhutto said that pandemic of COVID-19 has affected the whole population and destroyed the Pakistani economy adding that Economies all over the World, including Pakistan, have come to a screeching halt. He further added that our nation was the several predicaments that were tangled with each other which included a medical crisis as well as economic instability and unstable commodity prices.
Mr.Anwar Mahar, Executive Director, NARI Foundation demanded from the platform that the IMF, World Bank, Asian Development Bank and other all donors for the immediate dissolve loans which were payable in 2020-21 Ms.Fatima Naeem Women Rights Activist ,Ms.Azra Jamal Chairperson District Education Task Force,Mr.Zubair Mahar Assistant Director Social welfare,Mr.Zubaida Ghangro Human Rights activist, Advocate Ilahi BUX Maitlo,Ms.Qamarul Nisa Phulpoto District President PPP, Mr.Javed Solangi Social Activist,Mr. Maulana Ubaid Ullah Bhutto Chairman Citizen Alliance District Sukkur Ms. Uzma Mahesar, Mr.Deedar Meerani Civil Society Activist and others speak and highlighted the crucial impact of debt on Common citizens and overall economy of Pakistan and said that the pandemic emergency of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has badly affected the global and especially Pakistani economy.
Speaking from the Public Forum they said Pakistan’s economy was already not so good and was shrinking, unemployment was rising and various sectors were in crisis adding that COVID-19 Pandemic was resulted the huge losses and left deleterious effects on the Pakistan’s economy and on the people in every field of the life.
The Public Forum demanded the IMF, WB, ADB and other bilateral world donors to write-off the debt which was payable in 2020-21 and stressed the Federal Government to invest the amount over the health, education and livelihood of the people of the Pakistan.
