SHC seeks public awareness compliance report on worst impacts of Gutka


Sindh High Court (SHC) in an order of petition for action against Gutka Manufacturers and Sellers directed Sindh Government to submit compliance report on 26th August 2020 regarding the public awareness messages of the worst impact of Gutka on human health through print, electronic and cable TV Network.

Sanober was a petitioner in this case who died in the month of May 2020, she had filed petition to seek financial help for treatment as she was suffering from oral cancer and also asked for action against manufacturers and sellers of Gutka (Smokeless Tobacco).

It was learned that she was a fourth and first woman petitioner who died from oral cancer before getting justice or any financial help from provincial government.

In addition she had also lodged an FIR in Zaman Town Police Station on 22nd February 2020 for action against gutka manufacturers and sellers, in which she also nominated some of its manufacturers.

On 10th March 2020 in the petition of Oral Cancer Patient affected by the use of Gutka, Mawa (Smokeless Tobacco) Sindh High Court in a written Order directed Home Department and IG Sindh to launch public awareness message campaign through print and Electronic media so that General Public as well as Gutka Manufacturers should know that Law has been promulgated to curb the menace. 

Muzammil Mumtaz Meo Advocate informed that he is a legal council in the said petition but was not present yesterday due to some reason but would appear before the court in next hearing .

Moreover he informed that Gutka is selling in various parts of the city . He urged higher officials of Sindh Police for action against Gutka Manufacturers and sellers.
