The Covid-19 pandemic has brought several activities to a grinding halt. But it has not been able to stop a young and energetic sociologist from hailing from Jamshoro from fulfilling his commitment to the environment by planting hundreds of trees in Jamshoro, a notable poet of Sindh, Haleem Baghi wrote ‘Jamshoro asan je pireen jo shehar’ (Jamshoro is the city of our beloved one) and this young man has changed the narrative and saying that ‘Jamshoro is the city of plants’.
Saif Ali Khaskheli, a sociology graduate and a man from the social sector invested hin money and brought some small plants from other wholesale nurseries of Hyderabad. Jamshoro nursery was inaugurated on the occasion of World Environmental Day, June 5th, 2020, in a only one month time Jamshoro nursery has made the sale of 8000. Saif is receiving orders from Jamshoro and Hyderabad. Keeping lockdown situation in view he has started home delivery service. He has also hired a young boy from Jamshoro who helps him in maintaining the nursery.
Saif shared that, ‘I plan to expend my nursery, I have a great interest in plants and this is my interest as well, I want to promote green business and I believe that establishing nursery is not good only for earning purpose but this will also help in making plant cleaner.’
He also added that, plants have long been a subject of interest and a topic of discussion – and it’s no wonder; they represent life, growth, peace, and nature. Plants provide us with many benefits necessary for survival, including clean air, filtered water, shade, and food. They also give us hope and insight, and courage to persevere – even in the harshest conditions. Plants teach us to stay rooted while soaring to great heights.
Saif concluded that ‘I’m planting a tree to remind me to be open and kindhearted.’ Hugging a tree, understanding the language of trees, and sending loving-kindness to trees will make you rich. Because it connects you to the source – the source of abundance.
‘I would love to appeal to my colleagues and mutual aged friends to contribute to our land, Humans are a dynamic tree. Trees have a crown on top and they stand upright. Trees are just the other half of humanity. One family one government job should be the motto of a truly democratic government, one person planting one tree should be the motto of a truly democratic citizen.’
