Karachi Police on Monday arrested and stopped Journalists in various areas of the city over violation of lockdown orders despite of showing the identification.
Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) President Hasan Abbas, General Secretary Aajiz Jamali, and Executive Committee Members condemn the incidents of stopping and torture on journalists by Sindh police in Karachi during the lockdown.
KUJ Office bearers urged Chief Minister Sindh, IG Sindh and ADIG Karachi Ghulam Nabi Memon for taking notice against the said incidents and also demands action against the police officials who were involved in stopping journalists to perform their duty.
“Journalists faced derogatory attitude of police on the first day of lockdown in Newtown, Clifton, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Malir and Shahrah e Faisal area of Karachi”, said a press statement.
It was learned that as per the directives of Provincial Government journalists are exempted during the period of lockdown by showing their office card and CNIC to law enforcement personals but yesterday Newtown police had arrested cameraman of Sindh Tv.
KUJ warned to announce strict policy if the said incidents with journalists would remain to continue.
On the other hand said cameraman later released on bail, whereas DIG East after inquiry suspended Ghulam Akbar who had an additional charge of SHO in New town Police Station and appointed Muhammad Zubair as station house incharge of said Police Station.
