On March 01, 2020, NCJP organized a peaceful demonstration and condemns violence against Muslims in India at Karachi Press Club(KPC), in which religious leaders and civil Society of Karachi took part. They all had a peaceful demonstration.
The Authorities and Christian people of the Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi are voicing against religious violence in New Delhi, the capital of India. As it is learned that a deadly clash between Hindus and Muslims triggered by a newly enacted citizenship law in which Mobs tore through Muslim-majority neighborhoods in north-east New Delhi, attacking individuals, burning homes, businesses, and even worship places.
His Eminence Joseph Cardinal Coutts, the head of the Catholic Church in Pakistan and a well-known ardent promoter of Inter-Faith and Harmony, in his special message, during a meeting, said that it’s really sad news and I express grave concern over the incident taking place in Delhi. The Prelate also stated that the Indian government must take immediate action to ensure the safety of all of its citizens, regardless of faith.
Very Rev. Fr. Saleh Diego (Vicar General and Director National Commission for Justice and Peace, of the Archdiocese of Karachi) said that we urge the Indian government to make serious efforts to protect Muslims and others targeted by mob violence.”
Fr. Saleh also appreciated and thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan wrote in a tweet on his account: “Be aware! In Pakistan, anyone who tries to raise his hand on non-Muslim citizens or looks badly at a synagogue will be very harsh. Our minorities are equal citizens of this country,” his statement has really strengthened not only Hindus but also all the Minorities of Pakistan. He also requested the Entire Christian community to keep fast on coming Friday for Muslims and peace in India.
Dr. Sabir Michal, professor and human rights activist, in his speech at Karachi press club said that in India the state’ ruling party has done discrimination against Muslim Minority in its country which is a bad example and presented a corrupt image internationally. It is a very alarming situation for whole world that Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India and his party are not even bothered about the violation of Human Rights and treaties they signed and are obliged to observe.
Mr. Syed Bloach, representative of Fisher Folk organization, thanked the entire Christian community and its leadership for raising voice for the Muslims in India and said wherever the Minorities are facing persecutions whether they are Muslims, Hindus or even Christians, we must raise our voices against the intolerance and violation.
Adv. Yunus Khan, president of Minority wing of Jamiat-e-Islami, gave the message of peace and thanked NCJP and Catholic Church for their initiatives for peace and brotherhood from his party and reminded that we all are one and stand together for peace and harmony in the world.
Both Cardinal Coutts and Very Rev. Fr, Saleh Diego in their joint statement appreciated the examples of brotherhood and mercy, especially those who whole-heartedly came out in support of those in need. Delhi Gurdwaras and Churches opened their doors to Muslim families who were forced to flee their homes even Hindu families are providing shelters to Muslims and hiding them in their houses. A Hindu man, Premkant Baghel is battling for his life after helping and saving 6 Muslim neighbors whose house was set ablaze.
