Journalists demands for impartial enquiry on lodge of FIR under ATA

On the lodge of Fake FIR’s against Journalists in different parts of Sindh, Journalists staged protest on Thursday at Karachi Press Club and demanded for impartial inquiry in above thirty cases which registered to harass journalists.

Speaking with protestors Ghazi Jhandir the President Sindh Journalists Council stated that, Police has booked above 50 Journalists under Anti Terrorism Act-ATA, on allegation of kidnapping, extortion, robbery and other serious allegations to harassed them.

Whereas he claimed that DIG Sukkur due to his personal dispute has booked Journalist Ajeeb Lakho in 17 different cases, in said cases his 80 year old father also nominated.

Mr. Jhandir said that, Police is torturing Journalist Ajeeb Lakho after kidnapping him like dacoits.

Addressing to the Journalists Imtiaz Khan Faran President Karachi Press Club shared that, registration of Fake cases against journalists would not be tolerate this act is equal to suppress freedom of Journalism.

On the Occasion Senior Journalist Imdad Soomro said that during last few months Sukkur Region Police teasing Journalists by booking them in Fake cases, He added the DIG Sukkur is using his power by wrong means and lodging FIRs against Journalist Ajeeb Lakho and others.

Despite of taking up the said issue with Chief Minister Sindh, Inspector General Sindh Police and Public Safety Commission, Sindh Police is still doing wrong practices.

However Senior Journalist Qadir Lashari urged Sindh Government to play its role in the said issue otherwise Journalists would start movement.

Whereas Najeeb Naich, Akber Jafri and other journalists has also expressed their views on the occasion.

A Press release of Sindh Journalists Council-SJC stated that on the call of SJC journalists staged protest in front of Sukkur, Kandhkot, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Ghotki, Nawabshah, Dadu, Nosheoferoze including various press clubs of Sindh.
