Sukkun Police Station team on Thursday arrested a citizen on the allegation of throwing garbage on street by violating Section 144 Criminal Procedure Code (Cr. Pc.).Police have taken action after the imposition of ban on dumping garbage on any public space under section 144 Cr.Pc by Sindh Government.
Citizen namely Abdul Jabbar arrested on the spot by police while throwing garbage on street through trolley within the jurisdiction of Sukkun Police Station. Whereas the said person was taken into the custody and FIR registered against him under section 188 Pakistan Penal Code on the violation of Section 144 Cr.Pc.
It was learned that Secretary Home Department Government of Sindh has issued a letter on 25th September 2019 on which it was mentioned that the cleanliness drive and lifting of solid waste/ garbage on the directives of Chief Minister Sindh is in full swing.
Further, the issue of throwing garbage on streets by citizens highlighted and also termed it for causing a public nuisance.
City News learned that Six different actions written on the said notification come under section 144 of Cr.Pc, 1. Open littering on the streets, 2. Littering Outside the main doors of house, 3. Littering through window of vehicle on the road, 4. Open littering on the beaches, 5. Throwing debris of damaged structure of under-construction buildings on the roads and 5. Spitting of Pan in open without dustbins.
Moreover, it was stated that the Sindh Government in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 144(6) Cr.Pc, do hereby impose a complete ban on the mentioned acts throughout the province of Sindh for the period of Ninety Days with immediate effect.
It was written on the letter that in pursuance of Section 195(i) (a) Cr.Pc. the Station House Officers are hereby authorized to register the complaints under section 188 PPC in writing for the violation of section 144 Cr.PC which imposed by the said notification.
Jude Allen of Eco-Action Pakistan appreciated the act of Sukkun Police Station and termed it a great idea. He also urged authorities for the implementation of section 144 in all over the city.
Moreover, he asked for the penalty on KMC and Cantonment Boards for not providing adequate disposal bins and in case of not cleaning garbage regularly.
It was observed that the Sindh Government has launched one-month clean Karachi campaign from last week, however, the provincial government has also announced for the award of 100,000 rupees for the citizens on identifying people throwing garbage around the city.
