ACE sealed illegal check post of tax collection from sacrificial animals, fake cops & police mobile seized
Chief Secretary Sindh Mumtaz Ali Shah on Thursday took notice on the news which was air on Mehran Tv regarding the charging of illegal tax from the sacrificial animals sellers, On the directives of Chief Secretary Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) team sealed the illegal check post on Motorway M-9 adjacent to Lucky Cement factory and has also taken fakepolice mobile and all the record in custody Moreover they arrested around 15 people from the spot.
City News learned that Senior Journalist Qamar Memon correspondent of a regional language channel break the investigative news last month regarding the collection of an illegal fee from the sellers of sacrificial animals including cows, goat, camels, and others by setting up illegal check posts.
The said correspondent also highlighted in his news that the influential person Hakim Ali Jiskani who is behind all of the illegal business, who is also a Sindh Council Member of PPP , a ruling party of Sindh Province.
It was observed that the said influential person has the approval of annual tax collection and giving of health care certificate to milk-producing animals owners, within the limits of district council Karachi but the said person has illegally fixed the check posts from the entry points of the city .
Whereas it was written on the tender documents of District Council Karachi that the contractor would only charge tax from the owners of milch animals within the limits of District Council Karachi, As per news reports 99 Percent of animals comes in other parts of city especially during Eid Ul Azha but the said person and his staff was charging from all of them from the illegal checkpoints.
It was learned that approximately above 4 Lacs sacrificial animals has come in Super Highway Cattle Mandi, whose owners have paid the illegal tax on the said check posts which estimates billions of rupees.
Sources informed that the said person was charging 100 rupees for goat and 500 rupees for cow and camel, the influential person has also had the contract of more than 15 toll plaza for the collection of toll tax.
A Press Statement issued by the Office of Anti Corruption Establishment District East stated that ” an organized offence is committed since some years, which is also the loss of provincial exchequer for personal gains”.
The accused people have amassed disproportionate assets through manipulative exercises, it added .
