Sindh Journalists Council-SJC expressed concern over the registration of cases against Journalists under Anti-Terrorism Act-ATA and alleged for the involvement of Sindh Police in disappearing and harassing of journalists.
Moot expressed concern over the continuous registration of cases despite the assurance of Chief Minister Sindh in a Sindh Assembly Floor for the resolution of issues after the protest of Media Persons.
SJC demanded the registration of the case against the Police personnel who involve in the kidnapping of Journalist Nadeem Buzdar from Pano Aqil, who later illegally shifted to Punjab Province.
Whereas SJC Office bearers urged for the registration of the case against Sukkur Police Officers who has directed for the picking of Journalist Nadeem Buzdar. However, Sindh Journalists Council President asked for the bringing of Police Officers in Court who had booked seven journos of Pano Aqil including Ashiq Jatoi in fake ATA cases.
Further Senior Journalist Ghazi Jhandir asked for the removal of Police Officers including SSP’s from Sukkur, Khairpur, Nosheroferoze, Nawabshah including other districts of Sindh who had booked journalists in fake cases.
Speaking at the Session Mr. Jhandir suggested Sindh Government for the formation of a committee to enquire the registration of cases against journalists and asked for the inclusion of Sindh High Court Retired Judge, Members of Provincial Assembly and well-reputed Police Officer in committee.
In a session, Moot also showed concern over the performance of Fact-Finding Committee which was established by the Order of Chief Minister Sindh to present him a detailed report within ten days but three months period has been passed still the committee has failed to fulfill its task.
During the discussion, it was decided unanimously to stage protest in front of Sindh Assembly on 19th September at 12 Pm for the Freedom of Journalist’s Protection. SJC President Ghazi Jhandir urged Media Organizations including Journalists of Sindh Province for the participation in said Protest.
It was learned, SJC stated in a Press Statement that Numbers of fake cases under ATA has been registered against journalists in different districts of Sindh.
Syed Munawar Alam, Zohaib Zardari, Najeeb Ullah Naich, Imdad Soomro, Dodo Chandio, Syed Mazhar Rizvi, Khawar Hussain, Nawaz Dahiri, Imtiaz Mastoi and numbers of journalists were present in the meeting.
